Eligibility

The Hopeful Futures Fund (“Fund”), a component fund at Tulsa Community Foundation, aims to invest in a more hopeful future, for all. Guided by an advisory committee of community and funding partners, the Fund will support innovative and responsive solutions to challenges facing Tulsa’s nonprofit sector with particular attention to organizations supporting LGBTQ+ people—and the families, allies, and communities that love them. Designed to reduce administrative burden, reach overlooked organizations, and catalyze new projects, the Fund is focused on one-time, low-barrier, trust-based grants up to $10,000.

Priorities: Grantmaking will focus on four priority areas:

  • Community & Connection: programs and spaces that foster belonging and peer support;

  • Storytelling & Culture: visibility, public art, and narrative change;

  • Education & Leadership: affirming resources, leadership development, and civic engagement; and

  • Economic Empowerment: entrepreneurship, workplace inclusion, and mutual aid.

Timeline: The current anticipated schedule for the Fund’s inaugural grant cycle is:

  • September 1, 2026 — Application Opens

  • October 31, 2026 — Application Deadline

  • January 2027 — Award Notifications

Any eligible organization may Request an Application. Eligible organizations who submit a Request will be notified if they are invited to apply, with additional information as necessary. Requests are reviewed on a rolling basis.

Eligibility: To be eligible, applicant organizations must be classified as tax-exempt public charities under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. This program is open to all eligible organizations regardless of race, color, religion (creed), gender, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, military status, or any other basis made unlawful by applicable federal, state, or local laws or regulations. All grants will be awarded consistent with the Fund's charitable purposes. Grants will not be made to individuals. Projects operating with a fiscal sponsor may be considered. Submission of a Request for Application does not guarantee an invitation to apply, and an invitation to apply does not guarantee an award. Though an advisory committee may be engaged in the grant review process, all recommendations are advisory only. All awards are subject to review and made at the sole discretion of Tulsa Community Foundation. Program details are subject to change.

Why

“Hopeful”

Futures?

The Hopeful Futures Fund uses “hope” not as blind optimism but as a commitment: the conscious choice to invest in futures that feel uncertain. We draw the word from the University of Oklahoma’s Hope Research Center, which defines hope as “the belief that the future will be better and you have the power to make it so.” For LGBTQ+ people in particular, hope is profoundly shaped by the institutions, culture, and social supports around them. ‍

The Hopeful Futures Fund is also a memorial to every community member we have lost—or almost lost—too soon to hopelessness. The Fund aims to lay the foundation for a well-resourced ecosystem of affirming organizations that will support, protect, and empower LGBTQ+ Oklahomans to live—hopefully.
